EST.D 2009 Crystal Chanel A photographer for creative, heart-strong, joy-seeking adventurers. • Oahu, Hawaii •

Hellooooooooo & Welcome

Hey you.  This is my story.

I was sitting across from the ER President at my dream job interview, ER Physician Assistant, at the only Level 1 Trauma Center in Hawaii.

"Where do you see yourself in 5 years? Would you be willing to work a weekend shift if it meant not getting to shoot a wedding?" I fumbled awkwardly with my hands under the table, the words fell silent like heavy rocks at the back of my throat.(Crystal, hellloooo...say something...18+years of school for this very moment.) Instead, my hesitation was evident for a split second too long.  My enthusiasm and eager expression waned.  I cleared my dry throat and stuttered, "Uh, of course."

That’s when I felt the lie deep down in my gut.  The kind where it hurts to realize that what you worked so hard towards becoming, is no longer who you want to be.  More than anything, I still wanted to photograph people in their wildly fantastic, amazing, fleeting life.

Crystal Chanel Photography intuitively creates an unforgettable experience with your favorite people.  I have a gift for documenting the authentic dynamic of couples wildly in love.  I can effortlessly see the beauty and uniqueness in individuals.  After our photography session, I’ll give you a tangible keep sake documenting your relationship with your favorite people, beautifully remembered in priceless, frame worthy, fine art prints.  My photography is creative, dreamy, and fun.

In college, I lived in Zambia and Kenya for a year, running WHO bush clinics, vaccinating babies, and loving orphans.  Part of my heart will always belong to Africa.  Therefore, every time you book with me, together, you and I will partner with the International Rescue Committee, to change a little girl's life in a developing country and send her to school for an entire year.

I've told you my story.  I can't wait to hear yours and be a merrymaker and create your portrait.

With warmest aloha,

Crystal Chanel

Wedding FAQ’s

What’s your style?

My style is a mix of fine art and documentary.  Your photographs will have a dreamy, bright, authentic quality showcasing the emotional moments of irreplaceable importance, and all the little in-between moments too.  I will document your day as it unfolds, infusing it with my own romantic interpretation of it.  I can easily direct you into natural looking poses, if you feel uncomfortable and am more than happy to organize formal family portraits.

How many pictures will you take?

For each hour of wedding coverage, you can expect to receive 50-100 images.

Does every wedding include high-resolution images on an USB?

Yes! It's your day and your memories.  You deserve to have them all.

Will I be able to make my own prints from the images on the USB?

When will my proofs, prints, and wedding albums be ready?

Proofs are ready for viewing in your online gallery, 8-10 weeks after your wedding.  Once you coose your favorite images, your fine art prints will be mailed to you within 2 weeks.  Albums take 4-6 weeks to arrive, once you've signed off on your final design.

When will the proofs I see be retouched, or does that happen after I choose my favorites?

All the proofs you see will be professionally and beautifully edited before you see them.

Should we do a first look and what is it?

I'm a big fan of first looks, but ultimately it's up to the bride and groom.  First looks are when the bride and groom decide to see each other before the ceremony, usually in a gorgeous location.  First looks are very intimate and tend to allow for more time for relaxed couple's shots. Think of it as a mini-love photography session before saying your, "I Do's." Most of my couples really like the first look, because after the ceremony, they only need to focus on family formals and wedding party photographs. Then it's off to your reception for a grand time.

I’m a destination bride. Can we do a Skype session?

Absolutely I insist.  I wouldn't have it any other way.

Who will be photographing my wedding?

Myself and the love of my life. If Ivan isn't available, one of my other fellow lead wedding photographers will take his place.

Do you have pictures of entire weddings that I can see?

Yes, go to and click on any of the couple's links to see their wedding or love sessions.

How can I make sure I look good in photos?

Leave some breathing room in your wedding day schedule. Relax.  Remember you're marrying the love of your life. Get a good night's sleep and drink plenty of water the day before.

How far out should I book you?

We tend to book out at least 6 months in advance.

How do I book you?

Step One: Contact me to see if your date is still available.

Step Two: Meet for coffee, on us of course. If you're off island, we can Skype instead ;)

Step Three: Choose your favorite wedding collection.

Step Four: To officially book your wedding photography, a signed contract and your deposit are due. Your remaining balance is due 30 days before your wedding.

Aloha! Congratulations on finding the love of your life! I'm thrilled for you.  Woo Hoo!  My clients’ favorite wedding collection includes 8 hours of coverage, a 10×10 fine art album, a USB with images, an engagement session, a set of fine art prints, and a personal online gallery.  Most clients plan to invest around $3500, however, I do offer elopement collections starting at $849.

Lifestyle and family sessions are photographed on location - whether you're snuggled up with your little ones at home, in the embrace of your fiancee surrounded by turqouise waters and green mountains,  or on vacation from the mainland celebrating a milestone - I'll help you realize your vision.  Portrait sessions start at $599.
